Awake

Awake

A spark like sweet nectar from the perfect fruit reviving, sustaining, exquisite

My voice found again, ready like it had been sitting on a bench waiting for me show up again and set it free

Like discovering the missing part of my soul calling forth the lyrics of my life and giving me permission to be me

No regrets for there was good in that sleep and two perfect gifts that will forever make me smile

But, like Rip Van Winkle though never fully asleep a part of me did slumber for a while.

The dance goes on to the music of my hope, my joy, my belief in what can be

Hard times can lead to something better than before, but they are still hard.

I walk towards a future, singing to the rhythm of appreciation for the blessings of those who walk with me

I feel awake.

…of Dreams

of dreams (audio)

It never was and never is about the field

It is about the desires of your heart and your soul revealed

It is those deep longings that need to be fed

It is about letting our life go where the spirit has led

dreams are the fuel of a hope that lives way down deep

circumstances might try to steal them, but they’re the most important thing we keep

sometimes they get buried, or lost or even broken

Other times we hold them so tight we never even let them be spoken

We are meant to dream and if we build it they will indeed come

But what’s the point of building if we aren’t having fun

Dreams are meant to be the joyful stuff of Queen Mab and her faeries

We have no time for bad ones and no use for our worries

We

need

dreams…

We have dreams

We live dreams

And we have to believe they are possible.

We

Dream.

Up and Down

Up and Down (audio)

One foot in front of the other…up

We climb and climb and climb

Rocks and ridges, trees and streams

Natural nature, nearly pristine

The lake below like smooth green glass

Deep, shallow, deep, vast

The mountain beckons

And all around more mountains stand shoulder to shoulder

The green rises into the rock into the snow into the bright blue, pointing to heaven

The summit scene like something in between

Up…there isn’t any more and yet there is

and down…we can see enough to know we can’t see it all

take it in…breath it in…every breath so sweet, the way air is supposed to be.

One foot in front of the other…down

Return to what was, but don’t forget what is

The view will never be the same.

You’ve been up and down.

Serenity

Serenity (audio)

warm goodness,

like comfort food, and a sincere embrace

simple beauty

like friendship and a welcome smile full of grace

absolute calm

like smooth water waiting for the wind, a paradox of intensity and chill

joyful bliss

like something so sweet you might never get your fill

enchanted nature

like a child’s playground, pure creations place of recreation

jubilant optimism

like a blind trust, treating hope as inspiration

profound silence

like a love song that needs no sound

lasting peace

it’s the key to a better world…found

serene

I did not (in honor of a friend wrongly accused)

I did not (audio)

You accuse me…

I did not

You don’t know me, but you chose me

I did not

You had the power

I did not

Injustice abounds disguised as justice

I did not

I should have had a chance to speak

I did not

Everyone should get to defend themselves

I did not

Everyone should have the right to know why

I did not

You said you’re sorry

I did not

You decided to move on

I did not

You may not care

I do

It matters

The Flame Dance

flame dance (audio)

Build and build and build and then…

ignite!

set it free and the dance comes alive

Hypnotic, it pulses

growing, retreating, like waves on the evening tide

gold, red, blue

jumping from one spot to the next

sparks of energy bursting with life, inviting more…

reaching out to inspire…more dancing

warm, it engulfs

radiant, it blinds, attracts, mesmerizes

It’s nearly out when just one breath can rekindle

more vibrant than before

bigger dance, bolder…

violent, intense, pure

life-giving…saving, simple, cozy, peaceful, romantic,

fire

dance

The Birthday that didn’t come and yet it did

life goes on and it has not been a year and yet a year in the life has past
death goes on…apart, a part of life
no more candles to be blown out but many which are lit because of you
a day to remember, but there are no days that we forget
the gift of you
a picture, a book, a moment, a glimmer as if you were just there
and you were, you are…you are not
the void is:
sad, hard, real, deep, good because it teaches us what a life can mean

we go on…
remembering, crying, laughing, living
sometimes it overwhelms…that’s okay, it has to be
sometimes it lifts and inspires…you…lift and inspire still
you lived for us…such life…you live in us
a day…one day…some days…a birth, a life
worth celebrating…
time for cake

Why

why (audio)

The crowds gather from all walks of life

Filled with their hatred, ignorance and strife.

They carry signs for their own cause,

but so often it’s more about seeking others flaws.

Down with those of a different race!

Down with those who walk a slower pace!

Down with those who appose our cause!

Down with those whose religion is not ours!

Down with those who don’t agree!

Down with those who aren’t like me!

These are the chants of the many,

But into the din of “down withs” a voice calls out

Not much more than a whisper, but heard like a shout-

Why?

What’s the difference but pigment in skin?

Is your cause a cause or are you just following to win?

Is your God really so small?

Do you really think you know it all?

Have you even tried to understand?

Have ever even been to a distant land?

Are you really so fragile you won’t even open your eyes?

What are you so afraid of? That what you think you know is really lies?

It didn’t take long for the whisper to grow

For the many to quiet and for their doubts to show

A chant that began as one voice becomes the voice of the many

People are looking for answers where there simply aren’t any.

Ignorance is loosing its hold

As those who care are becoming more bold.

People are asking…

Why?
